Taking Your Cat to the Vet

Taking Your Cat to the Vet

Did you know that August 22nd is Take Your Cat To The Vet Day? Fluffy would probably insist that it is actually Hug Your Cat Day or Cat World Domination Day, but we checked. Proper veterinary care is a very important part of any pet care routine! Read on a Flushing, MI vet discusses taking your furball to the doctor.

Fluffy’s Veterinary Care Needs

Your kitty’s veterinary care needs will depend on her age, weight, and health. Baby cats need to come in a few times, for their initial exams and vaccinations. Little Fluffy should also be microchipped and spayed or neutered while she is still a kitten. Once your furball is all grown up, she may only need to visit us once or twice a year, for routine exams, vaccinations, and parasite control. Just like people, cats need to see their doctors a bit more as they age. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for tips on your feline pal’s diet and care needs. That’s what we’re here for!

Signs That Your Cat Needs Emergency Care

No matter how old your kitty is, it’s important for you to watch for signs of illness. Contact your vet immediately if you notice anything amiss. Cats tend to try to hide signs of sickness, so by the time you notice something is off, your cute pet could be quite sick! Some of the warning signs to watch for include hiding, poor grooming, litterbox issues, vomiting, diarrhea, and uncharacteristic behavior or vocalizations. Coughing, sneezing, or wheezing can also be warning signs, as can changes in appetite. Ask your vet for more information.

The Car Ride

While Fido may absolutely love car rides, Fluffy could not disagree more. Being in a moving vehicle is very scary for our feline friends! To make the ride a bit easier for your kitty, add soft bedding and toys to her carrier, and play a radio softly. You can also crack a window, so your furball always gets fresh air flowing to her.

Purr Reactivation

We do everything possible to make appointments quick and easy for our feline patients. However, once Fluffy gets home again, she may appreciate a new toy or a special treat.
