Common Foods That Are Toxic to Dogs

If there’s one thing we know about Man’s Best Friend, it’s that he has a very healthy appetite. Fido will eat, well, pretty much anything and everything. Our canine friends don’t always know what is good for them, however, so you’ll want to be very careful with what you feed your furry pal. Many of our favorite foods are poisonous to dogs! In this article, a Flint, MI vet lists some foods you should never give your pooch.

Chocolate may be a delicious treat for us, but it’s very dangerous for our canine friends. Keep that delicious candy bar to yourself!

Foods Containing Xylitol

Xylitol is found in many processed foods, such as gum and baked goods. It’s extremely toxic to dogs, and can make your canine buddy seriously ill. Never give your dog anything that contains xylitol.

Avocados are another food that your pooch should never have. Keep that yummy guacamole dip away from your furry friend!

Several types of nuts, including macadamia nuts, are toxic to our canine pals. Even nuts that aren’t poisonous can be dangerous, as they could choke your pet. Play it safe: don’t give Fido any nuts!

Grapes, Currants, And Raisins

Eating just a single grape or raisin can make your beloved pet very sick. Never give your furry pal grapes, currants, or raisins.

Pitted Fruits

Cherries, apricots, and other pitted fruits are also on the no-no list. In some cases, such as apples, the flesh itself may be safe for Fido, but the pips or seeds can be toxic, and can also potentially choke or injure your furry friend.

Garlic, Onions, and Scallions

These foods are particularly problematic because they are often used as seasoning. They’re not safe for Fido, however, so don’t let your canine buddy consume them.

Junk Food

Junk food is no better for dogs than it is for us! Don’t give your pooch anything that is fried, or foods that are high in fat, salt, or sugar.

Raw Potatoes

Never give your pet raw or green potatoes. Fido could get very sick!

Alcohol is also on the no-no list for Man’s Best Friend. Keep those drinks away from your canine buddy!
